「考点归纳」population的用法

population是一个集合名词，意为“人口”，指人口总数。

（1）population 作主语时，谓语动词常用第三人称单数形式。例如：

The world's population is increasing faster and faster.

世界人口增长得越来越快。

（2）population 被百分数、分数修饰，作主语时，谓语动词用复数形式。

About seventy percent of the population in China are farmers.

中国大约70%的人口是农民。

（3）表示人口的多少应用large/big或small.例如：

China is a big country with a large population.

中国是一个人口大国。

Compared with Shanghai ,Jinan has a much smaller population.

与上海相比，济南的人口少得多。

（4）询问多少人口时应用“How large ……？”或“What's the population of …？”.例如：

How large is the population of this area？=

What's the population of this area？

这一地区的人口是多少？
